The U of L Art Gallery is pleased to present Dimensions, the Saskatchewan Craft Council’s biennial juried exhibition of fine craft. Lethbridge has a dynamic craft scene with guilds covering a wide range of practices and this exhibition is sure to be of interest to people who appreciate clay, glass, metal, wood and textiles; the experts who produce fine craft; or the many people in Southern Alberta who are engaged in taking classes and trying out craft projects for themselves. The exhibition has been touring widely in Saskatchewan, the U of L Art Gallery is the only Alberta venue, and it will conclude its tour at the Woodstock Art Gallery in Ontario later in the summer. The U of L Art Gallery hopes that presenting Dimensions will encourage further interest in craft – whether that is appreciating it or producing it – and that the exhibition will contribute to the lively craft scene in our city.
To create the exhibition, the Saskatchewan Craft Council convened a jury that included celebrated wood worker and designer Michael Hosaluk and Susan Rankin, a glass artist who was born in Saskatchewan, but lives and works in Apsley, Ontario. They reviewed 202 entries by 122 different craftspeople whose practices encompassed all forms of craft materials and approaches. Dimensions features 35 works by 33 exceptionally talented Saskatchewan craftspeople – the best in Saskatchewan fine craft.
Admission is free and all are welcome.
