Private to Public

On collecting series
Main Gallery

Reception, Friday January 28, 2005

Donations by private collectors are a major source of new works, both historical and contemporary, for public art collections. In some cases, the donations consist of the majority of the individual’s holding and thereby include disparate works that reflect the private collector’s interest. Private to Public features a cross-section from significant donations to the U of L Art Collection and addresses how the meanings of work shift when changing hands from the private sphere to the public.
