A public-site camera obscura event which features the creation of new work, a one-day performance and workshops.
As a companion to the Midnight Sun Camera Obscura Project in the Main Gallery, the U of L Art Gallery presents this public-site event at the Coutts Centre located near Nanton, Alberta. Curated by Josephine Mills, Donald Lawrence will turn an existing grain bin into a walk-in camera obscura; Dianne Bos will present her “See the Stars” prospector’s tent and make a temporary sun dial; Holly Ward will use the cyanotype process to explore the Coutts’ herbarium collection; and Sarah Fuller will install video projections related to the house and gardens as well as conduct an Anthotype workshop with spinach grown at the Coutts Centre. In addition, students from Thompson Rivers University and the University of Lethbridge will present art work related to the theme and to the Coutts Centre.
DIRECTIONS & MAP TO THE COUTTS CENTRE
Turn east off Hwy 2 on to Provincial Road 533. This intersection is across from the Ranchland Motel at the north end of Nanton, AB.
Follow Provincial Road 533 east, past the Nanton Golf Club to Range Road 280
Turn left (north) on Range Road 280 (gravel road)
Travel north on Range Road 280 about 4 km (cross Township road 164)
Coutts Centre is on the left (west) side of the road. Look for a number of rustic outbuildings.
