MmmPop
The U of L Art Gallery invites artists and the public to view a selection of our outstanding Pop Art works by Canadian, American, and British artists such as David Hockney, Roy Lichtenstein, Andy Warhol, and Joyce Weiland. The event is part of art + people = x, an on-going series to connect local artists and audiences with the U of L’s renowned art collection. MmmPop will support local artist’s research and professional development while also providing new perspectives on the collection and a contemporary context to engage audiences with some of the most celebrated works owned by the U of L.

MmmPop is a partnership between the U of L Art Gallery and Casa Lethbridge.

The general public is welcome to come to see the Pop Art works on June 19th and have a behind the scenes tour at the U of L Art Gallery. This event is open to all and does not require further participation in the workshops.

Casa Lethbridge Workshops
August 17, 2014 | 10 AM – 4 PM and September 7, 2014 | 10 AM – 4 PM

Artists are invited to participate in 2 workshops being hosted by Casa in their 2 Dimensional Studio. The workshops will be focused on printmaking, though artists are also welcome to draw, paint or collage. Stamping, stenciling, monotypes, serigraph, intaglio & relief printing can all be accommodated at Casa. The workshop is non-instructional, though artists with no prior experience will be walked through the monotype process and provided a simple palette of inks. Standardized pieces of printmaking/media paper will be provided, but artists MUST bring their own materials. Artists wishing to participate MUST register & confirm their participation on either/both of the workshop dates by emailing Darcy Logan  (galleryatartslethbridgedotorg)  . Please put “MmmPop Workshop” in the subject line. The workshop fee is $5, and lunch will be provided. Space is limited.

To be considered for the exhibition, artists MUST view the Pop Art works in the U of L collection on June 19, 2014 and also MUST participate in at least one workshop. As well, for prints or other works on paper, they must fit being matted and framed in the following sizes: 22 x 28 or 14 x 18 inches. 3D works that fit the following size will also be considered: L. 35 x W. 22 x H. 12 inches or L. 35 x W. 22 x H. 18 inches vitrine size. The exhibition will be curated by Darcy Logan and Josephine Mills.

All are welcome to participate — from people with no formal art training to established artists with advanced degrees and students are welcome. If they choose, artists can participate in the workshops and do not need to submit for consideration in the exhibition. (But of course you’ll want to submit the fabulous work that you make!)
