Annual Curated Student Exhibition 2014

CALL FOR SUBMISSIONS

This exhibition is an opportunity for art students to engage with the process of applying to exhibit their work and discussing their ideas with a professional curator. The guest curator for this year’s exhibition is Ann MacDonald.

Exhibition Dates: March 14 – April 10, 2014 in the University of Lethbridge Art Gallery (W600) with the opening reception on Friday, March 14, from 8:00 – 10:00 PM.

ELIGIBILITY

Any current University of Lethbridge undergraduate student enrolled in an advanced or senior studio class in either Fall 2013 or Spring 2014 or has completed all their advanced senior studio courses is invited to participate.

Works in all media, created since May 1, 2013, are eligible. Works should be submitted ready for installation.

SUBMISSION DEADLINE: FEBRUARY 14, 2014, 4:00 PM

All submission materials must be delivered to the Art Gallery office (W640)

The curator will visit artists and view all works on campus in studio or alternate location provided by applicant.

HOW TO SUBMIT

Please submit a cover letter stating your interest and a CD containing a digital copy of your cv, artist statement, list of works, and no more than 10 images OR 3 Quicktime videos. Your CD must be clearly marked with your name and contact information. If you do not have an advanced or senior studio space in the Spring of 2014, please include information in your cover letter for where the curator will be able to meet with you and see your work in person.

SUBMISSION CD CONTENT GUIDELINES

Images/videos
1. Images should be .jpg or .tif files and in RGB mode (No CMYK).
2. Image dimensions should be no larger than 1024×768 pixels and should be 72 dpi.
3. Videos (.mov or .mp4) should be no larger than 720×480 pixels and no longer than 3 minutes.
4. Label each file with a number, your last name, and title (ie. 01smithtitle.jpg.) Do not use symbols or punctuation marks (# / – @ &) in the file name.

Documents
1. Documents should be .doc, .docx, or .pdf files.
2. Your artist statement should not exceed 750 words.
3. The numbered image list must include the title, date, dimensions, and materials of your works.
4. Your cv should be no more than 2 pages; cv format guidelines: collegeart.org/guidelines/visartcv

About ACSE 2014’s guest curator:

ACSE 2014 Guest Curator Ann MacDonaldAnn MacDonald is Director/Curator of the Doris McCarthy Gallery at the University of Toronto Scarborough. She has worked with a number of Canadian artists on exhibitions including David R. Harper: Entre le chien et le loup (2013), Mélanie Rocan: Souvenir involontaire (2013), Jon Sasaki: Good Intentions (2010), Liz Magor: Storage Facilities (2009), Bill Burns: Bird Radio (2008), Euan Macdonald: Two Places at Once (2005), and Doris McCarthy: Everything Which Is Yes (2004). The Doris McCarthy Gallery is a collecting institution, and Ann has assisted in notable acquisitions including works by Robin Collyer, Liz Magor, Doris McCarthy, Ed Pien, Sasha Pierce, Zalmaï, and others. Ann has also been a key participant in the commissioning of permanent installations at the University of Toronto Scarborough by Daniel Young & Christian Giroux and Kim Adams. She co-authored Shiva’s Really Scary Gifts (Coach House Books, 2002) with Governor General’s Visual and Media Arts Award recipient John Scott. Ann is a faculty member in the Arts, Culture and Media department at the University of Toronto Scarborough as well as U of T’s Masters of Visual Studies, Curatorial Stream.
